Trump Welcomes Qatari Premier Amid Israeli Attack

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump welcomed Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, in New York on Friday. According to the Gulf nation’s deputy head of mission, the dinner was a success.

"Great dinner with POTUS. Just ended," Hamah Al-Muftah shared on the American social media platform X.

The White House acknowledged the gathering occurred but did not disclose any additional information.

This encounter followed Tuesday’s airstrikes by Israel that targeted senior figures of the Palestinian faction Hamas in Doha. The attacks triggered widespread rebukes across the region and internationally.

Trump also voiced sharp criticism of Israel’s actions, describing them as a one-sided move that did not benefit either the US or Israel.

The assault resulted in the deaths of five Hamas operatives and a Qatari security personnel.

They had reportedly been discussing a fresh US-brokered proposal to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza — where Israeli military operations have led to over 64,000 fatalities since October 2023.

Qatar has played a pivotal role in brokering peace efforts throughout the conflict.

Before the dinner with Trump, Sheikh Mohammed held talks with US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House.
