Zelenskyy, Tusk Discuss Russian Drone Incident
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated Wednesday that he engaged in discussions with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk following Russian drones targeting Ukraine that crossed into Polish airspace, representing “a completely different level of escalation.”
Zelenskyy noted that fragments from the drones, including Iranian-manufactured Shaheds, were discovered in “many towns and villages” across Poland. Kyiv has been providing intelligence to Warsaw since the overnight attacks.
“I offered Poland our assistance, training, and expertise in shooting down Russian drones, particularly Shaheds. Donald and I agreed on appropriate cooperation at the military level,” Zelenskyy declared on Telegram.
He emphasized the importance of creating a collaborative European air defense network and boosting funding for interceptor drone production, suggesting that these measures would establish “an effective air shield over Europe.”
The Ukrainian leader also communicated about the situation with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, stressing that “we must respond together to all current challenges and be ready for potential threats to all Europeans in the future.”
Polish authorities reported that investigations are ongoing after debris was found in several locations.
Meanwhile, Ukraine asserts that Russia launched the drones from territories it occupies in Ukraine as well as from Belarus.
