Malaysia Calls Israeli Airstrikes on Doha “Grave Breach of International Law”
(MENAFN) Malaysia condemned Israel’s recent airstrike targeting a Hamas negotiation team in Doha, Qatar, calling it a severe violation of international law.
“Malaysia condemns in the strongest possible terms the Israeli airstrikes on Doha,” wrote Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
He strongly criticized the attack as a reckless act of aggression, highlighting that it clearly violated Qatar’s sovereignty and represented a serious breach of international law. The prime minister also voiced alarm over the potential harm to civilian lives and the destabilizing effect on the region.
“By targeting Qatar—a nation central to mediation and dialogue in the Middle East—Israel has shown utter contempt for peace and diplomacy. Such an assault is indefensible and intolerable,” Anwar added, emphasizing Malaysia’s unwavering support for Qatar.
He further called on the global community to hold Israel accountable for its “outrageous aggression.”
On Tuesday, explosions were heard across Doha, with thick clouds of smoke rising into the sky. An Israeli military spokesman described the attack as a “precise strike” aimed at senior Hamas leadership, although no specific location was provided.
In response, the Israeli prime minister's office stated that the operation was “wholly independent.”
Qatar, along with Egypt and the U.S., has been playing a key role in mediating an end to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Since October 2023, the violence in Gaza has claimed more than 64,000 Palestinian lives.
