Global Sumud Fleet Ships Arrive In Tunisia Ahead Of Gaza Aid Mission
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
TUNIS, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- The Global Sumud Fleet ships began gradually arriving at the Tunisian port of Sidi Bou Said late Sunday, ahead of their scheduled Wednesday departure toward Gaza, in a coordinated effort to end the Israeli occupation blockade.
The first three vessels reached the port from Barcelona carrying European parliamentarians, international activists, and notable figures.
The rest of the fleet, approximately forty-four ships, are expected to arrive primarily from Italian harbors, and finalize preparations before continuing toward Gaza with the broader convoy seeking to breach the blockade.
Large crowds of Tunisians, along with members of the Joint Action Coordination for Palestine, gathered at Sidi Bou Said's harbor, waving Palestinian flags, wearing keffiyehs, and staging welcoming events for the arriving international solidarity fleet.
A third convoy, called the Maghreb Resilience Convoy, are also scheduled to depart Tunisian waters on Wednesday, merging with the larger international fleet toward Gaza, with the explicit mission of contesting Israeli occupation's restrictive siege.
In total, more than seventy ships were expected to sail jointly from Tunisian ports toward Gaza on Wednesday, marking what activists described as the largest maritime initiative in years aimed at breaking Israeli occupation blockade. (end)
