Number Of People Wounded In Russian Strike On Humanitarian Mission In Chernihiv Region Climbs To Eight, Two Fatalities
“As a result of the attack, two colleagues were killed and eight others were wounded,” the statement said.
The statement emphasizes that the mission's top priority is to provide urgent medical care to the wounded and support to the families of the deceased.
It is emphasized that at the time of the incident, DRC teams were conducting exclusively civilian humanitarian activities - working to clear the area of mines to restore safe access to essential infrastructure, agricultural land, and residential buildings.
"This attack on a civilian humanitarian operation is a serious violation of international humanitarian law (IHL). Humanitarian workers, as well as the people they help, should never be targeted while carrying out their vital work. We call on all parties to respect and comply with international law and to ensure the safety and protection of humanitarian workers and their activities at all times. The DRC remains committed to its mission of protecting people affected by war and forced displacement in Ukraine," the statement said.
