Jerash, Aug. 26 (Petra) – Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman on Tuesday inaugurated the Joramco environmental project at the Dibbin Nature Reserve in Jerash Governorate, a joint initiative between the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) and the Jordanian Aircraft Maintenance Company (Joramco), designed to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
The project establishes an eco-friendly area within Dibbin Reserve, aiming to raise environmental awareness among visitors, promote ecotourism, and provide job opportunities for local communities, thereby aligning conservation objectives with socio-economic development.
Suleiman underlined that reducing the carbon footprint is the most vital approach to combating climate change, whose impacts affect all vital sectors in Jordan and worldwide. He stressed that nature reserves have become key partners in climate action by supporting the local economy, creating jobs, advancing green and blue economy concepts, and strengthening community resilience.
He highlighted the ministry's efforts to develop projects within reserves that protect forests, water resources, and biodiversity, while also supporting sustainable ecotourism. Despite limited resources, Jordan remains committed to international climate agreements and continues to implement initiatives aligned with the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan, he added.
Chairperson of the RSCN Board of Directors Batoul Ajlouni underlined the ministry's central role in empowering nature reserves and supporting their work. She noted that the Joramco project exemplifies effective partnership in protecting nature and preserving national resources, affirming the Society's commitment to advancing collaborative programs that bolster Jordan's climate resilience.
Fraser Currie, CEO of Joramco, underscored the role of public-private partnerships in supporting national climate efforts and reaffirmed the company's commitment to environmental responsibility.
Jordan continues to face mounting climate challenges, including water scarcity, rising temperatures, drought, and reduced vegetation cover, making projects of this nature a strategic necessity for strengthening adaptive capacity and building a sustainable future.
