Amman, Aug. 21 (Petra) -- A closing ceremony was held Thursday at the Armed Forces Hotel marking the conclusion of the "Dragon Eye" field exercise, conducted under the Jordan-U.S. program for countering weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
The exercise, carried out by the Jordan Armed Forces in cooperation with the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory of the United States Department of Energy, included a series of field scenarios simulating nuclear and radiological threats, designed to boost participants' operational efficiency, refine skills, and promote the exchange of technical expertise between Jordanian and international partners in this critical field.
It aimed to strengthen the capacities of Jordanian national institutions in responding to nuclear and radiological incidents, identify strengths and address gaps in nuclear and radiological security systems, and reinforce the Jordan Armed Forces' readiness to deal with unconventional threats.
The drill also sought to enhance response procedures for WMD scenarios and improve joint Jordanian-U.S. coordination in field training and applied exercises.
Organizers stressed the importance of aligning with modern scientific and technological developments to raise national preparedness against diverse threats, thereby advancing Jordan's role in safeguarding national, regional, and international security.
