Ukraine Kicks Off Work on Concrete Security Guarantees
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Tuesday that Kyiv is moving forward with drafting specific security guarantees following high-level talks in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders.
Posting on X, Zelenskyy said “important talks” held Monday in the United States marked a “significant” step toward both ending the war in Ukraine and safeguarding the nation’s future.
“We are already working on the concrete content of the security guarantees,” Zelenskyy stated, noting that leaders would continue discussions throughout the day, and preparations for further talks are underway in what he called the “relevant formats.”
The Ukrainian leader emphasized ongoing diplomatic coordination, saying,
“We will also continue working tomorrow. National security advisors are also in constant contact now. There will be security guarantees. I thank all our partners for their determination and support."
Zelenskyy expressed optimism about the trajectory of the negotiations: “Ukraine feels this strength. And we will do everything to make the path to peace a reality – through partnership, through security guarantees, and through the courage of the Ukrainian people.”
On Monday, Trump welcomed Zelenskyy and several European leaders to the White House for a series of talks centered on Ukraine’s security needs and pathways to end the ongoing conflict.
According to the U.S. president, his administration has initiated groundwork for a direct meeting between Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with plans for a trilateral summit to follow.
Moscow, however, continues to insist that any sustainable peace agreement must consider Russia’s own security concerns.
