Sudan rejects allegations of discussing forcibly moving Palestinians from Gaza with Israel
(MENAFN) Reports indicate that South Sudan has denied claims suggesting it is negotiating with Israel to resettle Palestinians from Gaza. Sources note that Israel is reportedly seeking arrangements with third countries to host people displaced from the besieged enclave.
The South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a statement on Wednesday calling the reports “baseless and do not reflect the official position or policy of the government.”
“South Sudan firmly refutes recent media reports claiming that the government …is engaged in discussion with the State of Israel regarding the resettlement of Palestinian nationals from Gaza in South Sudan,” the ministry stated.
Israeli forces have conducted its genocide in Gaza since 2023, following attacks by Hamas militants that killed around 1,200 people and resulted in the abduction of over 250 captives. Official figures estimate more than 61,000 fatalities in the territory, with the UN warning that over 2 million residents are at risk of famine.
Earlier this year, US President Donald Trump suggested relocating Gazans to other countries as part of a plan to transform the region into a “Riviera of the Middle East.” Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who supports the plan, said Israel intends to fully take control of Gaza before transferring authority to a transitional Arab government. Critics argue this would constitute forced displacement, and the UN has labeled it ethnic cleansing.
