Militants Detonate Key Gas Pipeline in Pakistan
(MENAFN) Suspected militants destroyed a key gas pipeline in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, halting gas deliveries to Punjab, the country’s largest province, according to local police.
The explosion occurred in the volatile Lakki Marwat district, part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, a source identified as police spokesman Amir Khan said.
He confirmed that explosives were planted along the pipeline, leading to the disruption of gas supply to the Mianwali region of Punjab.
This marks the fourth attack on the same pipeline site within just three months.
While no group has immediately claimed responsibility, authorities point the finger at the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned militant group with a long history of assaults on security forces and critical infrastructure.
Following the attack, security forces launched a search operation in the region to apprehend those responsible.
Lakki Marwat has long been a hotbed of militancy, with the TTP being particularly active in targeting security personnel, including police officers, in recent years.
