Emma Connolly
My research explores the viral movement patterns of narratives on social media platforms. I am particularly interested in developing innovative methodologies for exploring viral narrative spread, and have experience in working with X, Instagram, TikTok, and Reddit. I have published with The Conversation UK, the International Journal of Social Media and Online Communities, and the Journal of Politics and Information Technology. Narratives I have explored include real-time responses to terror attacks, including Charlie Hebdo in 2015, and the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017. My most recent paper analyses the cross-platform spread of memes about Kamala Harris in the 2024 US election, and my forthcoming research explores narrative metaframing in polarised discourse on Reddit.
