Trump Administration Grows Frustrated with Netanyahu
(MENAFN) The administration led by US President Donald Trump is reportedly viewing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a destabilizing figure in the region, with officials increasingly describing him as a “madman” disrupting Washington’s diplomatic strategies in the Middle East, according to a news agency.
Last week, Israel launched aerial assaults targeting Syrian government troops and military facilities in Damascus.
These strikes came as a reaction to violent confrontations between the Druze and Bedouin populations in Syria’s southern region.
A truce announced on Saturday seems to be maintaining peace for now.
Following the recent unrest, Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab stated on X: “After several bloody days in Suwayda Province, the Internal Security Forces have succeeded in calming the situation following their deployment in the northern and western areas.”
Despite the ceasefire, American authorities have reportedly become “significantly more alarmed” by Netanyahu’s conduct and decisions, the news agency reported on Sunday, referring to individuals with direct knowledge of the situation.
A White House official was quoted by the news agency saying, “Bibi acted like a madman. He bombs everything all the time,” emphasizing that such behavior could jeopardize Trump’s broader diplomatic initiatives.
The official added, “The president doesn’t like turning on the television and seeing bombs dropped in a country where he’s seeking peace and has made a monumental announcement to help rebuild.”
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Monday that Trump “was caught off guard” by both the recent strikes in Syria and Israel’s attack on Gaza’s only Catholic church.
“In both cases, the president quickly called the prime minister to rectify these situations,” Leavitt stated.
