Truce deal in Suwayda lead to withdrawing of tribal forces
(MENAFN) Tribal and clan leaders in Syria’s southern province of Suwayda announced on Saturday that they have withdrawn all armed fighters from the city in accordance with a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending recent unrest.
“Following consultations with all members of Suwayda’s clans and tribes, we have decided to adhere to the ceasefire, prioritize reason and restraint, and allow the state’s authorized institutions the space to carry out their responsibilities in restoring security and stability,” the representatives said in a joint statement.
The statement confirmed that all tribal fighters had been pulled out of Suwayda city, signaling a commitment to de-escalation after days of clashes with Druze armed groups and government forces.
However, the tribes issued a firm warning against violations of the ceasefire: “Should any illegal groups violate the agreement, Syrian clans and tribes will respond firmly.”
The ceasefire follows efforts by the Syrian Interior Ministry and local mediators to restore calm in Suwayda after the outbreak of violence earlier this month.
