Haqqani, Uzbek FM Discuss Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation

KABUL (Pajhwok): Senior officials from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have discussed ways to further strengthen political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Interior, Acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani met with Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, Minister of Transport Ilhom, and their accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Saidov shared updates on the Trans-Afghan Railway Project, including details of recent meetings and the signing of a trilateral agreement.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of the major regional initiative.

The ministry noted that Saidov highlighted the growing cooperation between Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan, particularly in the political, economic, and cultural spheres.

He also pointed out that Uzbekistan's trade volume with Afghanistan has nearly tripled compared to last year-a clear sign of strengthening bilateral ties.

Saidov expressed hope for continued expansion of relations between the two nations.

He also reiterated Uzbekistan's support for the unfreezing of Afghanistan's overseas assets, resolution of Afghan refugee issues, and Afghanistan's active participation in international forums.

Haqqani welcomed the progress of the Trans-Afghan Railway Project, calling it a significant step toward boosting regional economic development.

He reaffirmed Afghanistan's commitment to deepening political, economic, and cultural relations with Uzbekistan.
