Saudi Crown Prince Meets Araghchi In Jeddah

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, marking a key step in ongoing efforts to improve relations between the two countries.

According to Al Jazeera, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described Tuesday's discussions between Araghchi, Prince Mohammed, and other senior Saudi officials as“fruitful.”

The meeting follows a 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran, during which the United States bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities before brokering a ceasefire. Despite the intensity of the conflict, the visit signals that rapprochement efforts between Tehran and Riyadh remain on track.

Saudi Arabia's official news agency, SPA, reported that the Crown Prince and Araghchi reviewed bilateral relations and discussed regional developments.

Prince Mohammed reiterated the Kingdom's hope that the ceasefire would help foster regional security and stability.

He also emphasized Saudi Arabia's commitment to resolving disputes through diplomacy and dialogue.

It added that Araghchi expressed his gratitude to the kingdom for“condemning the Israeli aggression”.

During his visit, Araghchi also held separate meetings with Saudi Minister of Defence Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

Tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia had remained high for years, fueled by opposing stances on regional conflicts and mutual accusations of destabilization. However, both sides agreed to restore diplomatic ties in a landmark deal brokered by China in 2023, and high-level contacts have since become more frequent.
