Indonesia Plans Discuss With The US Planned High Tariffs
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 (KUNA) -- Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, heading an official delegation, is due to hold talks with American officials in the US focusing on President Donald Trump's decision to enforce tariff fees by 32 percent on Indonesian products effective August 1, 2025.
Indonesian Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati said in a statement to the Indonesian news agency, Antara, on Tuesday that the delegation would hold the discussions in Washington in the coming hours.
The minister's deputy, Dr. Anggito Abimanyu, said in a statement that it was premature to make accurate assessment of the US decision's impact on the Indonesian exports.
Trump had declared the planned high tariffs on the Indonesian imports and warned Jakarta that a retaliatory move by Indonesia targeting the US products would prompt Washington to double the planned levies.
However, Trump had indicated that Washington would examine the decision if Jakarta decides to invest in the domestic US market.
The US president is spearheading a strategy to impose high tariffs on imports to protect the local US industries and production. (end)
