GCC Chief Discusses Free Trade Agreement With Japanese Officiall

TOKYO, July 8 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budaiwi, discussed with Japanese Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Kato Akiyoshi the latest developments in the second round of negotiations on the GCC-Japan Free Trade Agreement.
The meeting was held on Monday within the framework of Al-Budaiwi's official visit to Japan.
During the meeting, they reviewed a number of topics related to investment and trade, as well as the latest developments concerning the second round of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, along with ways to advance them to enhance the economic partnership and serve mutual interests.
The two sides affirmed that the Free Trade Agreement between the GCC and Japan will represent a strategic step that will contribute to opening up broader horizons for trade exchange.
It will also strengthen economic ties, and consolidate joint cooperation on a firm and exceptional basis, thereby promoting mutual interests and serving both sides' aspirations for a sustainable economic partnership.
The Secretary-General reviewed a number of economic indicators and statistics from the GCC countries, noting that their outstanding economic performance, sustained growth and development across various sectors have contributed to strengthening their standing regionally and internationally, making them a focus of interest for many countries seeking to strengthen their economic and trade relations with them.
