Afghan Migrant Fatally Stabbed In Iran By Iranian Attackers
As Iran continues mass deportations of Afghan nationals, sources have confirmed the tragic killing of an Afghan asylum seeker in the Shahriar district of Tehran. The incident occurred two days ago.
The victim, identified as Najibullah Khaksar, was fatally stabbed in the chest while returning home from work.
According to sources, Khaksar was originally from Kapisa province, Afghanistan. Witnesses say he was attacked by two men riding a motorcycle. The assailants reportedly stabbed him multiple times, targeting his chest. The attackers are believed to be Iranian nationals.
This is not the first case of violence against Afghan migrants in Iran. Just weeks earlier, the mutilated body of a young Afghan girl was discovered in Tehran under suspicious circumstances. In another recent incident captured on video and widely circulated on social media, a young Afghan migrant was severely beaten by two Iranian men, further highlighting growing insecurity for refugees in the country.
The increasing violence comes amid a broader context of deteriorating conditions for Afghan migrants in Iran. Over 1.4 million Afghans have been forcibly returned from Iran since early 2024, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Many of these returnees lack housing, identification, or access to essential services upon arrival in Afghanistan.
Iran currently hosts one of the largest Afghan refugee populations globally. For decades, Afghans have sought refuge in Iran due to armed conflict, Taliban oppression, and economic collapse. However, Iranian authorities have ramped up deportations in recent months, citing economic strain and national security concerns.
Human rights advocates have repeatedly warned that Afghan migrants in Iran face systemic discrimination, abuse, and xenophobic violence. Organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have urged the Iranian government to uphold its international obligations and ensure the safety and dignity of refugees within its borders.
As violence against Afghan migrants grows more visible, pressure is mounting on both Iranian authorities and the international community to address these human rights violations. Without urgent intervention, thousands of Afghan refugees could face not only deportation but also continued threats to their lives.
