Anti-Dumping Probe Launched Into Indonesian Paperboard Imports

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, July 4 (KNN) The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of 'Virgin Multi-layer Paperboard' from Indonesia.

The move follows a complaint filed by the Indian Paper Manufacturer Association (IPMA) on behalf of the domestic industry, alleging injury caused by underpriced imports.

According to DGTR's notification, the investigation aims to examine the existence, extent, and impact of alleged dumping of the product into the Indian market.

Virgin Multi-layer Paperboard is widely used in the packaging of pharmaceuticals, FMCG goods, food and beverages, electronics, cosmetics, liquor, book covers, and publishing materials.

The complaint argues that the influx of low-cost imports from Indonesia is harming domestic producers by distorting market prices and affecting capacity utilisation, profitability, and employment.

If the investigation finds that the imports have caused material injury to the domestic industry, the DGTR may recommend anti-dumping duties.

However, the final decision on imposing such duties rests with the Ministry of Finance.

Anti-dumping duties are permitted under the rules of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), of which both India and Indonesia are members.

These measures are intended to protect domestic industries from unfair trade practices and ensure a level playing field against foreign producers.

India has previously imposed anti-dumping duties on various products from countries including China, as part of broader efforts to safeguard domestic manufacturing from market distortions caused by dumped imports.
