India Accelerates Launch of Surveillance Satellites
(MENAFN) India has expedited the launch of 52 surveillance satellites to boost its defense capabilities from space, as reported by media outlets on Monday.
The deployment will commence with the launch of the initial satellite in April 2026, with the entire network expected to be fully functional by the close of 2029, according to a news agency.
The USD3.57 billion initiative is designed to deliver real-time surveillance and enhance security along the borders, the report noted.
Once operational, this satellite constellation will provide high-definition images and shortened revisit intervals, allowing the Indian army, navy, and air force to effectively monitor activities in hostile areas.
Officials from the Indian space agency have stated that the nation plans to counter threats by deploying a variety of satellites in multiple orbits capable of tracking troop movements and capturing images across thousands of kilometers of borders with China and Pakistan.
During recent military tensions with Pakistan, India reportedly utilized both indigenous and commercial satellite tracking systems to target suspected terrorist camps in the neighboring country, according to local media sources.
