Thousands Rally in Tehran Funeral for Victims of Israeli Assaults

(MENAFN) Thousands of Iranians poured into Tehran on Saturday to participate in a funeral procession honoring those who lost their lives in recent Israeli airstrikes, which claimed the deaths of military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians alike.

The procession commenced at Enghelab Square and progressed toward Azadi Square, attracting large crowds representing all sectors of Iranian society, including senior military and government leaders, according to an Iranian news agency.

This public event followed Brig. Gen. Hassan Hassanzadeh’s Friday declaration that the funeral would serve as a “national symbolic ceremony” to commemorate the victims of the Israeli assaults, the agency reported.

Hassanzadeh outlined that the ceremony would involve the symbolic interment of several top military officials and civilians, while other victims had been buried in various provinces over the preceding days.

The violence escalated on June 13, when Israel initiated a 12-day campaign of airstrikes targeting Iranian military, nuclear, and civilian locations, resulting in at least 606 fatalities and 5,332 injuries, according to Iran’s Health Ministry.

In retaliation, Tehran launched missile and drone strikes against Israel, causing at least 29 deaths and over 3,400 injuries, figures confirmed by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The hostilities ceased following a US-brokered ceasefire that went into effect on June 24.
