OIC Condemns Israeli Strikes on Iran
(MENAFN) Foreign ministers representing the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday strongly condemned Israel’s aggressive actions targeting Iran and neighboring countries, urging the global community to take decisive deterrent steps.
These statements were articulated in the Istanbul Declaration, which was issued at the conclusion of the OIC’s 51st Council of Foreign Ministers session, held over two days.
Within the declaration, the ministers highlighted the "urgent need to stop Israeli attacks," expressing grave alarm over the rising tensions in Iran. They cautioned that this escalating crisis threatens human lives, regional economic stability, and environmental security.
The OIC ministers also criticized Israel’s prolonged military operations in the Gaza Strip, which have extended beyond 19 months, labeling the campaign as an "ongoing campaign of genocide." They reiterated demands for a lasting and effective ceasefire.
Additionally, the declaration condemned Israel’s recent strikes against Syria, Lebanon, and Iran, describing these actions as clear breaches of national sovereignty, regional security, and international law.
The foreign ministers called on the international community to enact strong deterrents and ensure Israel is held responsible for these offenses.
To address the situation, the OIC revealed the establishment of an open-ended Ministerial Contact Group tasked with collaborating alongside regional and international parties to promote de-escalation, halt hostilities aimed at Iran, and pursue a peaceful resolution.
