Iraq Blasts U.S. Airstrikes on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
(MENAFN) Iraq issued a stern warning on Sunday regarding the recent US airstrikes targeting three nuclear facilities in Iran, describing the attacks as an escalation “that goes beyond the borders of any country.”
Basim al-Awadi, the spokesperson for the Iraqi government, condemned the US for its direct involvement in the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel.
“Wars leave nothing but destruction, and the responsibility of major powers and international bodies must be to spare the world further crises, not ignite them,” he remarked.
Al-Awadi sharply criticized the US missile strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, cautioning that such military action “poses a serious threat to security and peace in the Middle East and exposes regional stability to grave risks.”
He emphasized that military action “cannot be an alternative to dialogue and diplomacy.”
The Iraqi official warned that ongoing military attacks risk “dangerous escalation with consequences that go beyond any country’s borders and affect the stability of the region and the world.”
He urged all involved parties to “immediately calm tensions, open urgent diplomatic channels to contain the situation, and work to defuse the crisis.”
US President Donald Trump announced early Sunday that American forces had launched bombings on Iran’s nuclear facilities located in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan.
This development marks the latest flare-up in the US-supported Israeli offensive against Iran, which began on June 13, prompting Iran to retaliate with missile attacks on Israel.
Israeli officials report that at least 25 individuals have died and hundreds more have been injured due to Iranian missile strikes.
Conversely, Iran’s Health Ministry states that the Israeli assault has killed 430 people and wounded over 3,500 within Iranian territory.
