Iran Missile Attack Forces Closure of Haifa Oil Refinery
(MENAFN) The Bazan Group halted all operations at its Haifa Bay oil refinery after an Iranian missile strike overnight resulted in three fatalities and severe damage to the facility’s power infrastructure, the company announced Monday.
In a statement submitted to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and reported by Israeli media, Bazan Group detailed, “As a result of damage to the facilities, the power plant was significantly damaged, and therefore all of the refinery’s and subsidiary companies’ facilities were shut down.”
The company is currently collaborating with the Israel Electric Corporation to restore power to the complex.
Late Sunday, Iranian missiles targeted the Bazan refinery complex in Haifa, damaging pipelines and electrical transmission lines, according to a statement from Bazan cited by Israeli media.
While oil refining operations continued, other parts of the facility ceased functioning.
The incident marks another escalation in regional tensions since Friday, when Israel conducted coordinated airstrikes on several locations in Iran, including military and nuclear sites, triggering retaliatory missile attacks from Tehran.
Israeli officials report that Iranian missile strikes since Friday have killed at least 24 people and injured hundreds. Meanwhile, Iran claims Israeli assaults have caused at least 224 deaths and over 1,000 injuries.
