Lithuanian Seimas Adopts Resolution Not Recognizing Seized Territories Of Ukraine As Russian
According to LR , the resolution was supported by 118 members of the Seimas, with none opposing, Ukrinform reports.
“No seizures of Ukrainian territory carried out or continuing to be carried out by the Russian Federation shall be recognized by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, either de jure or de facto,” the resolution states.
The document reiterates that Ukraine is a sovereign and independent European state, entitled to defend itself and determine its internal, foreign, and security policies independently. Its borders are those recognized by the international community in 1991.
"Today, it is crucial not only to end this unjustifiable war and secure a lasting peace, but also to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity," said Remigijus Motuzas, Chair of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee, presenting the draft resolution.
He emphasized that the world must not allow or accept Russia rewriting or falsifying the history of World War II and recent decades.
"As Moscow prepares to mark the anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, or, as officially termed, the victory over Nazi Germany, it has intensified pressure on Ukraine, increasing attacks on civilian targets and innocent people," Motuzas noted.
He stressed the importance of expressing moral support for Ukraine, especially as peace talks stall over territorial disputes.
The Lithuanian Seimas calls on parliaments around the world to adopt similar declarations and urges governments to take steps ensuring that no seizure by Russia is recognized in any form.
The Seimas also reiterated its strong condemnation of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
