Mexico Rejects U.S. Military Involvement in Drug War
(MENAFN) Mexican Leader Claudia Sheinbaum has dismissed an offer from U.S. Leader Donald Trump to send American troops to assist in the fight against drug syndicates.
Sheinbaum emphasized that while Mexico is willing to collaborate with the United States, it will never agree to any form of “subordination” to Washington.
Her statement followed an article published on Saturday, which claimed that Trump had pressured Sheinbaum during a mid-April phone call.
In that conversation, Trump allegedly advocated for the deployment of U.S. forces within Mexican borders to tackle the cartels trafficking fentanyl.
Anonymous sources revealed that Sheinbaum rejected the proposal, resulting in a tense confrontation between the two leaders.
During a public speech at the inauguration of a new university on Saturday, Sheinbaum acknowledged the report and clarified her stance on the matter.
“It is true… he said, ‘I propose that the US army enter to help.’ And you know what I told him? No, President Trump, our territory is inalienable, our sovereignty is inalienable, our sovereignty is not for sale!” she declared.
