Istanbul Quake Injures 115, Erdogan Urges Response Plan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISTANBUL, April 23 (KUNA) - A powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake that jolted Istanbul on Wednesday injured some 115 people, local authorities said, while President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for response preparedness among state bodies.
The quake has not claimed any lives thus far, while damage on the city's infrastructure has been minimal, according to authorities, citing that 115 people are receiving medical treatment as a result of the tremor.
In response to the natural disaster, the Turkish president said that state bodies were "closely monitoring the developments," expressing his relief that there appears to be no "troubling situation," so far, state-run Anadolu news agency quoted him as saying.
An earthquake measuring 6.2 degrees on the Richter scale hit the Marmara Sea near the western outskirts of Istanbul on Wednesday, wounding 115 people who had to jump from buildings to protect themselves from one of the largest tremors to have jolted Turkiye's largest city in years.
