Putin declares Moscow's trust in Western Europe has been irreparably damaged
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that Moscow's trust in Western Europe has been irreparably damaged, and while Russia remains open to negotiations with the European Union to resolve the Ukraine conflict, it will no longer base these discussions on trust. Speaking with Russian submarine crews following the launch of a new nuclear sub, Putin acknowledged US President Donald Trump's attempts at diplomatic efforts but made clear that Europe is no longer considered a reliable partner.
Putin criticized Western leaders, particularly from France, Germany, and the UK, for manipulating peace talks, such as the Minsk Agreements, to buy time and rearm Ukraine. He also accused former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson of undermining 2022 peace talks in Istanbul. Despite these breaches, Putin emphasized that Russia is still willing to engage in dialogue, but future agreements must be based on enforceable guarantees.
Furthermore, Putin proposed a UN-led transitional administration for Ukraine to organize elections and establish a legitimate government capable of negotiating a lasting peace. He concluded by reaffirming that any resolution must protect Russia’s long-term strategic interests.
