"Gaza-Deir al-Balah" image wins Photo of the Year at İstanbul Awards
(MENAFN) The İstanbul Photo Awards 2025, now in its eleventh year and organized by Anadolu, has celebrated exceptional international news photography by announcing its winners on Friday. The competition, which saw approximately 22,000 submissions from photographers worldwide, recognized 29 individuals across ten distinct categories.
Palestinian photographer Saeed Jaras received the prestigious Photo of the Year award for his deeply moving image, "Gaza-Deir al-Balah." This evocative photograph encapsulates the raw emotional aftermath of an Israeli airstrike, portraying parents in a visceral embrace of their child amid the wreckage of their tent in central Gaza.
The İstanbul Photo Awards, since its inauguration, has evolved into a significant worldwide platform, drawing a substantial number of participants, having registered for the contest.
The winning selections were chosen by a prestigious international jury featuring esteemed professionals in photography and photojournalism. Among them were National Geographic photographer and filmmaker Ami Vitale, award-winning news photographer Carol Guzy, NOOR Agency photojournalist Yuri Kozyrev, The Globe and Mail photographer Goran Tomasevic, media strategy advisor Michel Scotto, Getty Images lead sports photographer Cameron Spencer, along with renowned Turkish photographers Ahmet Sel and Firat Yurdakul.
