US demands 'full dismantlement' of Iran's nuclear program
(MENAFN) The United States is demanding the "full dismantlement" of Iran's nuclear program, according to White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.
In an interview that was aired on Sunday, Waltz stated, "Full dismantlement. Iran has to give up its program in a way that the entire world can see."
His comments follow a letter sent earlier this month by President Donald Trump to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urging a deal to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Khamenei discarded the letter, stating, "the claim by the US president that they are ready to negotiate is a deception of world public opinion.”
Waltz noted, "As President Trump has said, this is coming to a head. All options are on the table and it is time for Iran to walk away completely from its desire to have a nuclear weapon."
He argued that if Iran were to acquire nuclear weapons, it would spark an arms race across the Middle East. He further stated, "That is completely unacceptable to our national security."
