China’s Foreign Minister Discusses Deepening Relations with Japan

(MENAFN) On Sunday, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi held extensive discussions in Tokyo aimed at strengthening relations with Japan.

Wang gathered with Masataka Okano, the secretary-general of Japan's National Security Secretariat, to review the implementation of agreements made by each president and to explore ways to enhance bilateral ties.

Both parties agreed to continue high-level diplomatic conversations, as reported by a Chinese news agency.

On Saturday, Wang and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya co-chaired the sixth China-Japan High-Level Economic Dialogue, which ended with 20 key consensus points on cooperation in various sectors, including the digital economy, energy efficiency, environmental protection, green trade, as well as elderly care.

"Negotiations for the China-Japan-Republic of Korea Free Trade Agreement should be resumed and the process of establishing an Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area should be advanced," Wang stated during the economic discussions, based on an announcement from China.
The seventh China-Japan High-Level Economic Dialogue will occur in China.

In a one-on-one meeting between Wang and Iwaya, the Japanese minister urged China to remove its ban on Japanese seafood ship-ins, which was imposed after the release of treated radioactive water, according to a statement from the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
