Iran halts power outages due to improved fuel supplies to power plants

(MENAFN) Iran’s energy Minister, Abbas Aliabadi, announced on Tuesday that scheduled power outages have been halted due to improved fuel supplies to power plants. Speaking during a parliamentary session, Aliabadi confirmed that recent days have seen a favorable electricity supply situation, ensuring sufficient fuel availability and eliminating the need for planned blackouts.

This follows an earlier announcement by Esmaeil Hosseini, a member of the parliamentary energy commission, who shared on social media that residential power outages would cease. Hosseini credited a directive from the Supreme National Security Council and the fulfillment of commitments by the National Iranian Gas Company for stabilizing the situation.

The development comes after months of warnings from the Ministry of Energy about the severe challenges of securing adequate winter fuel supplies. Rolling blackouts had affected Tehran and other major cities for 16 days as authorities sought to address gas supply imbalances without resorting to the use of mazut in power plants—a measure avoided to reduce air pollution in cities like Tehran, Arak, Karaj, and Isfahan.

In a related update, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad highlighted increased energy production efforts. Over the past three months, raw gas production rose by 25 million cubic meters per day, while refined oil production increased by 5 million liters daily. Paknejad attributed these gains to the dedicated efforts of the National Iranian Oil Company.
