FAO Aims To Boost Food, Agricultural Output With Fewer Water Resources

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is working to increase food and agricultural product outputs while using less water, fertilizer, chemicals, and pesticides, the Head of FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Azerbaijan Nasar Hayat told journalists, Trend reports.

He made the statement during a roundtable within the frame of the upcoming COP29 titled "The Role of Water Resource Management Systems in Climate-Smart Agriculture".

"Today we gather here to discuss water and agriculture issues. Water is one of the most important sources of life, and water and agriculture have the closest link. We have seen that with climate change, changes in temperatures, and changes in rainfall and snowfall patterns, agriculture is coming under a lot of stress. So today we gather here in this event to understand how we can manage our water resources better, how we can use our water more efficiently, and how we can ensure sustainability so that this precious resource is available not only to us but to our coming generations," he said.

Azerbaijan has been a member of the FAO since October 20, 1995, and the organization has had an office in the country since the fall of 2015.
