White House denies that Biden`s retreatment was about health issues

(MENAFN) White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized on Wednesday that President Joe Biden’s recent announcement not to pursue a second term in office was not motivated by concerns about his health, nor was there any attempt to conceal any decline in his cognitive abilities.

The decision, announced on Sunday, came shortly after a high-profile debate performance against former President Donald Trump, during which Biden appeared disoriented and struggled to articulate his thoughts. Jean-Pierre reiterated that Biden’s withdrawal was driven by considerations for the country, the Democratic Party, and the current political moment, rather than personal health issues.

"There's been no cover-up, I want to be very clear about that," Jean-Pierre affirmed during a press briefing, addressing previous speculation and assertions about Biden’s health status. Despite weeks of assurances that Biden would remain in the race, Jean-Pierre maintained that the president's performance during the debate was attributed to a temporary illness.

In a subsequent national address on Wednesday evening, Biden did not explicitly reference his health as a factor in his decision. Instead, the 81-year-old emphasized passing the torch to a new generation and safeguarding democracy as central motivations for stepping aside.

The scrutiny over Biden's health and his decision to bow out of the race underscores ongoing political dynamics and speculation within the United States political landscape. As the nation gears up for a pivotal election season, discussions surrounding leadership succession and the implications for American democracy are expected to continue shaping public discourse and electoral strategies moving forward.
