Israel's military launches airstrikes targeting Hezbollah-affiliated sites

(MENAFN) Following a deadly rocket attack attributed to Hezbollah that claimed the lives of 12 individuals, including children, Israel's military has launched airstrikes targeting Hezbollah-affiliated sites across southern and central Lebanon. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the operations in a statement released on Sunday, detailing strikes on locations such as weapons depots and Hezbollah structures in areas including Shabriha, Burj al-Shamali, Bekaa, Kafr Kila, Rab Thalateen, Khiam, and Tayr Harfa.

The escalation came in response to rockets fired from Lebanon into civilian areas of Israel, resulting in casualties. The IDF framed its actions as defensive measures aimed at degrading Hezbollah's military capabilities and preventing future attacks. Hezbollah, a prominent Shia Islamist group based in Lebanon, has a history of hostilities with Israel, marked by periodic confrontations and retaliatory strikes across the volatile Israel-Lebanon border.

This recent exchange of fire underscores ongoing tensions in the region, posing challenges to regional stability and drawing international concern over potential further escalation. Neighboring countries and global observers have expressed apprehension about the humanitarian impact on civilian populations caught in the crossfire.

Israeli military operations in Lebanon have frequently sparked criticism for their humanitarian consequences, with advocacy groups emphasizing the need to protect civilian infrastructure and livelihoods amidst conflict. As diplomatic efforts strive for de-escalation, the situation remains fluid, with a focus on averting further loss of life and mitigating the wider repercussions of heightened tensions in the Middle East.
