Iran Declares Nationwide Holiday Due To Extreme Heat, Shutting Down Govt Offices And Banks

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) The Iranian government has declared a nationwide holiday for Sunday, July 28th, due to severe and unprecedented heat.

According to Iranian media reports, government office hours for today, Saturday, were also reduced, with operations closing by 10 a.m.

According to the Iranian Meteorological Organization, temperatures in Tehran are expected to exceed 40°C on both Saturday and Sunday, with some central and southern regions reaching 50°C or more.

This comes amid statistics showing that this summer's temperatures are between 4 to 5 degrees Celsius warmer than in previous years globally.

The World Meteorological Organization also reports that climate change has intensified extreme heat events, which have increased sixfold since the 1980s.

The extraordinary heat wave underscores the growing impacts of climate change, highlighting the urgent need for global action to mitigate its effects. As temperatures continue to rise, both short-term responses and long-term strategies are essential for protecting public health and managing environmental challenges.

Additionally, the situation in Iran serves as a stark reminder of the broader climate crisis affecting regions worldwide. Governments and communities must work together to develop adaptive measures and sustainable solutions to address the escalating frequency and severity of extreme weather events.
