Headliners: Leah Katz

(MENAFN- PRovoke) In our Headliners series of conversations, we get under the skin of PR and communications leaders around the world who have made PRovoke media headlines recently, uncovering what they see as the greatest challenges and opportunities for the industry, where they find inspiration (and how they switch off), what they've learned about themselves, as well as the creative campaigns they love and the work they are most proud of.

In this week's Q&A, we speak to Leah Katz who was recently named the new head of Zeno's East Coast operations .

What are the greatest challenges and opportunities for the PR and communications industry over the next 12 months?

Navigating societal issues at the speed of news and culture is increasingly challenging. This week, we hosted a dinner with communications leaders across various industries. They shared their pain points and the complex issues they're facing-inequities, disparities, conflicts, politics, prejudices, fears, and more- as they determine how best to show up for those who matter most to their business.

Fear of backlash has kept the business community silent on crucial societal topics recently. However, I'm optimistic because leaders don't want to remain silent. They understand the stakes are high, and younger consumers especially want them to engage. There's an opportunity for a reset, to engage authentically in ways that align with their business and focus on areas where they can drive meaningful change.

What's the best PR campaign you've seen recently and why?

In 2024, PR agencies made a significant impact at Cannes, showcasing the power of communications in driving business results. Edelman's "Move to -15°" campaign stands out as a prime example. In our complex world, it highlights that PR is more than just words-it's about actions that create meaningful impact.

What work from your team are you most proud of over the past year?

This is my third week at Zeno. I've admired Zeno's bold
work from afar for many years. Seeing their work up close over the past few weeks has been a privilege. The teams are genuinely committed to work that drives real business impact.
I'm very proud to be joining this incredible team.

What have you learned about yourself over the past couple of years?

Of all the skills I have collected over my career I realized in recent years that being a 'generalist' has been my agency superpower. In my previous growth role, it helped me problem solve across every practice and sector from client service and
operations through to strategy and planning. It has set me up for success in my new role as Managing Director for Zeno East.

How do you switch off and maintain wellness?

I LOVE a good sing-song and dance. . . so nights out at Cafe Wha? or Karaoke in KoreaTown with friends gives me exactly what I need.

What cultural source (eg book/podcast/movie/TV show/music artist) has provided creative inspiration for you lately?

New York City is my creative inspiration. In the city that never sleeps, creativity, reinvention, and innovation can be found around every corner. On one of my random Saturday walks I watched a dancing horse with a mounted police woman, shopped at a street fair, and ended the day at a comedy club surprised by Mike Birbiglia and Chris Rock working on new material. This place is simply amazing.

If I wasn't working in PR/comms I would be...

Running a summer camp.
