Mullah Beradar Calls For Investment In Pharmaceutical Sector


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Beradar has called the production and smuggling of low-quality drugs illegal and against Islamic values and asked businessmen to invest in the health sector.

Addressing a gathering marking the inauguration of a Pharmaceutical company Life Pearl he said:“The smuggling and import of low-quality drugs was an illegal and bad act and we hope that with the inauguration of this factory public access to quality drug would improve, we ask the owners of pharmaceutical factories to produce quality medicines.”

He hoped that businessmen would invest in medical sector to improve drugs production and make Afghanistan self-sufficient in the production of drugs.

Acting Health Minister Noor Jalal Jalali said currently quality medicines are produced in the country and there was need for investment in this sector.

He said:“The Islamic Emirate is trying to make Afghanistan self-sufficient in all sectors and we should not wait for foreign help, foreigners will not fix our property and our economy, we should fix our own country and not wait for anyone”

Acting Economy Minister Qari Din Mohammad said:“According to the US Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), during the past 20 years of the republic regime, 144 billion dollars were spent in the reconstruction sector, of which 20 billion dollars were spent only in the health sector, but nothing was done, all the money was wasted, there is still no standard hospital in the country, patients go to neighboring countries for treatment.”

He also asked businessmen to invest in the health sector especially in the pharmaceutical sector.

Ahmadullah Kochi, head of the Life Pearl pharmaceutical factory said different types of high quality tables and syrups would be produced in this factory in which $20 million had been invested.

He said 400 people have been directly employed in the factory while 900 have been provided with indirect work opportunities.
