Amman, July 18 (Petra) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the storming of the al-Aqsa Mosque/al-Haram al-Sharif by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Thursday morning, under the protection of Israeli occupation police.
The ministry described this incident as an unacceptable and condemnable provocation, highlighting the extremist Israeli government's continued unilateral actions and systematic policies that defy international laws and Israel's obligations as an occupying power in Jerusalem.
Sufian Qudah, the ministry's official spokesperson, stated that the Israeli minister's actions violated the sanctity of the al-Aqsa Mosque, marking a blatant and unacceptable breach of international law and the established historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its sacred sites.
He emphasized that Israel's ongoing unilateral measures and repeated violations of Jerusalem's historical and legal status necessitate a decisive international stance condemning these actions and ensuring protection for the Palestinian people amid Israel's aggressive war on the Gaza Strip.
Qudah reiterated that the al-Aqsa Mosque, encompassing 144 dunums, is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims. The Jerusalem Endowments Administration, part of the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf And Islamic Affairs, holds sole authority to manage all affairs of the Holy Mosque and regulate entry to it.
He reaffirmed the State of Palestine's right to sovereignty over the occupied city of Jerusalem, asserting that Israel, as the occupying power, has no rightful claim or sovereignty over Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
