Ukraine Mulling Half-Trillion Increase Of Defense Budget


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) In the near future, the Verkhovna Rada will consider the government's draft law on the revision of the State Budget of Ukraine for 2024, with the expenditures set to increase by more than UAH 500 billion.

This was announced by the head of the Parliament's Budget Committee, Roksolana Pidlasa.

Expenditures of the budget's general fund will increase by UAH 500.3 billion, of which UAH 495.3 billion will cover defense needs. Approximately one-third of these funds will go to the purchase and modernization of military equipment and weapons (+UAH 185.8 billion). Separately, the armed forces will receive UAH 147.2 billion for their current needs. Additional funding is provided for other security agencies.

"For the National Guard it's + UAH48.2 billion, also +UAH 41.9 billion for the State Border Guard Service, + UAH 40.7 billion for the MoD Special Transport Service , as well as + UAH15.2 billion for the National Police + UAH 7.5 billion for defense intelligence (GUR), + UAH 5.1 billion for the SBU security service, + UAH 2.8 billion for the State Emergency Service, + UAH 503 million for the Foreign Intelligence Service (SZRU), + UAH 258.3 million for the State Special Communications Service, + UAH 138.7 million for the State Protection Service," the chair of the Committee detailed.

The funds will be used to support the personnel and purchase military and specialized equipment.

As reported, on Thursday the Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft law on raising a number of taxes and fees, thanks to which UAH 140 billion will be added to the budget.
