Iran denies US ‘malicious’ accusations implying plan to kill Trump

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Iran categorically denied what it termed as "malicious" accusations by US media alleging the country's involvement in a plot to assassinate former US President Donald Trump. The accusations surfaced after US authorities reportedly received intelligence from a human source weeks ago, prompting increased security measures around Trump. Despite these reports, it was clarified that the alleged plot was unrelated to a recent shooting incident at a Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania where the former president was injured and a supporter killed.

The US National Security Council stated it has been monitoring threats from Iran against former Trump administration officials since Tehran vowed revenge for the 2020 killing of Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Soleimani in a US drone strike in Iraq. Iran's mission to the United Nations swiftly dismissed the allegations, labeling them as unsubstantiated and malicious.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani emphasized Iran's strong denial of any involvement in the recent armed attack against Trump, while reaffirming Iran's determination to seek legal action against Trump for his direct role in Soleimani's assassination. Soleimani was a key figure heading Iran's Revolutionary Guards' foreign operations, responsible for overseeing Iranian military activities across the Middle East. Trump had ordered Soleimani's killing via a drone strike near Baghdad airport, which escalated tensions between the two nations.
