Heavy floods in Afghanistan leave over 40 dead, 347 injured

(MENAFN) At least 40 people have tragically lost their lives, and 347 others have been injured due to the severe flooding in Afghanistan, an official announced on Tuesday. Sharaf Zaman, the spokesperson for the interim Public Health Ministry, reported that all casualties were recorded in the eastern Nangarhar province. He cautioned that these figures could rise as more information becomes available and rescue operations continue.

The region has been battered by extreme weather conditions, including severe storms, hail, and heavy rainfall over recent days. These harsh weather events have triggered significant flooding, leading to widespread devastation across Nangarhar province. Homes, infrastructure, and farmlands have been severely impacted, leaving many residents in urgent need of assistance.

In the wake of this disaster, the interim administration has been mobilizing efforts to provide health services to those affected by the floods. Medical teams have been dispatched to the region to offer immediate care to the injured and to prevent the outbreak of diseases in the flooded areas. The interim government is also working closely with international organizations to coordinate a robust response to the crisis. This collaboration aims to ensure that essential supplies, including food, clean water, and medical aid, are delivered promptly to those in need.

Efforts are being made to address both the immediate and long-term needs of the affected population. Emergency shelters have been set up to accommodate displaced families, and steps are being taken to repair damaged infrastructure and restore essential services. The interim administration is focusing on a comprehensive recovery plan to support the affected communities and mitigate the impact of future natural disasters.
