Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz secures 2024 Wimbledon men's singles title

(MENAFN) Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz achieved a stunning victory over 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic to claim the 2024 Wimbledon men’s singles title on Sunday. The third seed Alcaraz secured his second Wimbledon title by defeating the world No. 2 Djokovic in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) in a final that lasted two hours and 27 minutes.

At just 21 years old, Alcaraz's performance was particularly impressive as he took a commanding lead by winning the first two sets 6-2, which came as a surprise to many. In the third set, Djokovic mounted a determined comeback, leveling the score at 4-4. Alcaraz briefly regained control with a 5-4 lead but faltered in game 10, allowing Djokovic to equalize at 5-5 and then take a 6-5 lead after an unforced error from Alcaraz.

With the set tied at 6-6, a tie-break was necessary. Alcaraz maintained his composure and clinched the tie-break 7-4, thus securing the prestigious Wimbledon title. This victory marks Alcaraz's fourth Grand Slam title, adding to his previous wins at the French Open (2024), Wimbledon (2023), and the US Open (2022).

Novak Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, returned home as this year's runner-up, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest tennis players in history.
