US Sec. Of State, German FM Affirm Strong Support For Ukraine

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, July 11 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Foreign Minister of Germany, Annalena Baerbock confirmed, during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, their support for Ukraine.
US Department of State spokesman Matthew Miller said in a press statement late Wednesday that Blinked and Baerbock discussed NATO's support for Ukraine in its war against Russia and examined the challenges posed by China's continued support for Russian military capabilities.
Miller added that the two parties also discussed efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ensure delivery of humanitarian aid, "as well as the importance of preventing further escalation in the Middle East and the shared threat posed by Iran."
The meeting also included discussions regarding progress towards reaching a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and emphasized the importance of finalizing it as soon as possible.
He noted that both parties welcomed the joint US-German announcement of the episodic deployment of conventional US long-range fires in Germany starting in 2026 as part of planning for enduring stationing of these capabilities in the future.
A joint US-German statement released by the White House mentioned that this "demonstrate the United States' commitment to NATO and its contributions to European integrated deterrence." (end)
