Muharram holds a profound religious significance for Muslims. Imam Hussain Ibn Ali, the beloved grandson of the prophet Muhammad (Pbuh), was mercilessly slain along
with his kith and kin in
the plains of Karbala on 10th of Muharram also known as Day of Ashura, in the 61st year of Islamic Calendar on the orders of Umayyad
caliph Yazeed bin Muawya.

For the Muslim Ummah, Muharram is also a season of commemoration. Throughout the first 14 days of Muharram, various rituals and traditions are observed. One of the key practices is Majlis, or mourning gatherings in homes and Imambargahs where
religious scholars and orators give sermons and recite elegies recounting the events of Karbala in order to keep up the spirit of sacrifice,
resilience and resistance.
