Somalia Independence Day Celebrated

Doha, Qatar: The Embassy of the federal Republic of Somalia in Qatar celebrated the 64th anniversary of the Republic's independence and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Somali-Qatari diplomatic relations Sunday evening.

The event was marked in the presence of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, and Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, and Ambassador of the Republic of Eritrea to Qatar and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps HE Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed.

Ambassador of Somalia H E Dr Mohamed Ahmed Sheikh Ali praised the Somali-Qatari diplomatic relations, which witnessed a journey full of cooperation and achievements in various fields, starting with mutual political support, passing through economic cooperation, all the way to humanitarian aid and development investments.

“It is with great joy and pleasure that I extend my highest appreciation and respect to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the sisterly State of Qatar, may Allah protect him, who paid special attention to the course of bilateral relations between the two sisterly countries of Somalia and Qatar, and to the Qatari government and the great Qatari people,” HE the Ambassador of Somalia said.

He stressed that the Somali-Qatari relations, in their historical depth, were based on basic pillars represented in the principle of cooperation in various fields, commonalities, and strong historical ties.

The Ambassador of Somalia stressed that this historic occasion highlights the importance of Qatar's role as a strategic partner and ally of Somalia, as it demonstrates the commitment of both countries to enhancing sustainable cooperation and building a partnership based on common interests that commensurate with the depth of historical relations.
