Iran expands gas collection capabilities in east Karoon area

(MENAFN) Mahmoud Aminnejad, the Managing Director of Persian Gulf Bidboland gas Refinery, announced significant progress in Iran's efforts to enhance gas collection capabilities in the East Karoon region. He stated that seven projects, valued at USD400 million, are scheduled for completion by the first half of the current Iranian calendar year, ending March 20, 2025.

These projects are part of a broader initiative known as the "Renovation and Construction of Gas Collection Facilities," overseen by the petroleum Ministry. The goal is to gather associated gases effectively, thereby reducing the need to flare these gases, which are valuable national resources. The initiative also aims to mitigate environmental impact by preventing gas flaring.

The contract for this initiative, valued at USD1.109 billion, was originally signed in 2018 between Persian Gulf Holding and the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC). Persian Gulf Bidboland Gas Refinery, responsible for executing the contract, focuses on collecting associated gases and utilizing them as feedstock for various industrial processes.

Aminnejad highlighted that the Bidboland Gas Refinery, operational since February 2021, is the largest facility in Iran dedicated to processing associated gases. The successful operation of this refinery is contingent upon completing the renovation and construction projects for gas collection facilities.

With the completion of these seven projects in the first half of the year, 16 gas flares in the East Karoon region will be deactivated, and approximately 250 million cubic feet of gas will be added to Bidboland's feedstock capacity. This increase in feedstock is expected to boost production outputs, including methane for the national gas network and ethane for petrochemical complexes.

Overall, these efforts represent Iran's commitment to optimizing gas utilization, enhancing environmental sustainability, and supporting industrial development through efficient resource management.
