UK Labor Party suspends candidate over sharing Russian news agency content
(MENAFN) The United Kingdom Labour Party has suspended Andy Brown, a parliamentary candidate for the Aberdeenshire North and Moray East constituency, just two weeks before the general election. The suspension came after senior party members were alerted to Brown's apparent sharing of RT content on social media in 2018.
The local newspaper, The Press and Journal, first reported on Tuesday that Brown's controversial posts included a link to an RT article questioning the British government's narrative on the 2018 Salisbury poisoning case involving defector spy Sergey Skripal. Additionally, Brown allegedly shared a post suggesting then-Prime Minister Theresa May was concealing critical information about the incident.
Brown told the BBC that he did not share the posts and claimed his account might have been compromised. He dismissed the idea that he had forgotten sharing the content.
Further concerns were raised within the Labour Party over another post, purportedly shared by Brown, which questioned the prevalence of anti-Semitism within the party. This issue played a significant role in the removal of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader and his subsequent expulsion from the party by his successor, Keir Starmer.
