Rising Costs Of Sacrificial Animals Strain Eid Traditions

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) Every second person is concerned about the rising prices of sacrificial animals during Eid. It's tough when costs keep going up, making it hard for even middle-class families to participate in this important tradition. The increase in prices not only affects sacrificial animals but also daily necessities like groceries, fruits, and vegetables, putting a strain on everyone's budget.

It's frustrating when electricity bills are high, yet frequent power outages exist. This situation adds to the financial burden, making it even more challenging for people to save up for special occasions like Eid. The significant increase in the prices of sacrificial animals, around 20% compared to last year, is making it almost impossible for many families to afford them.

Many families in Peshawar are struggling to manage and perform this religious custom of sacrifice, where small, presentable animals can cost between 60,000 to 80,000 PKR, and larger animals range from 150,000 to 450,000 PKR. Even a share in a large animal can be as high as 40,000 to 50,000 PKR, which is far beyond the means of someone with a modest salary.

Eid ul Azha is a time when everyone should be able to enjoy meat, especially those who can't afford it throughout the year. It's disheartening that many lower-middle-class families are finding it increasingly difficult to uphold this tradition. The government must address these issues to ensure that prices are reasonable and accessible to all, allowing everyone to participate in this important ritual without financial strain.

It is also essential to remember that the spirit of sacrifice is not solely about the act of slaughtering an animal but also about the intention behind it, which is to demonstrate devotion and willingness to make sacrifices for the sake of faith.
