Russian post continues delivery services to 14 African countries

(MENAFN) As the summer season commences, Russian Post has announced an expansion of its parcel delivery services to encompass 14 more African nations, bringing the total number of serviced countries to 39. The state-owned postal company's decision, revealed by its press service, signifies a significant step towards facilitating trade and connectivity between Russia and the African continent.

Effective immediately, Russians will have the opportunity to send parcels to Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Gabon, Guinea, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Côte d’Ivoire, Malawi, Niger, Rwanda, Togo, and Eritrea. This expansion marks a resumption of parcel shipping services to Africa, which were temporarily halted in 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic but are now gradually being reinstated.

Russian Post's website indicates that the resumption of services to Africa is part of a broader effort to enhance connectivity and promote economic exchange between Russia and the African continent. Already, customers in Russia have been able to send parcels to a range of African countries, including Algeria, Angola, Ghana, and South Africa, among others.

The decision to expand parcel delivery services to Africa comes amidst a notable uptick in shipments from Russia to the continent. In the first four months of 2024, shipments increased by 4% compared to the same period in 2023, underscoring the growing demand for Russian goods in African markets.

Key destinations for Russian exports to Africa include Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco, with popular items for delivery encompassing research equipment, seeds, herbal cosmetics, dietary supplements, and health food. Mikhail Volkov, CEO of Russian Post, expressed optimism about the potential for trade relations with Africa, emphasizing the company's commitment to facilitating cross-border operations for its clients and fostering greater economic cooperation between Russia and the continent.
